The Karl Lebherz Band

Karl Lebherz Band played recently for the past two Cotati Chamber of Commerce's Oktoberfest, numerous Stanford University's Oktoberfests as well as Livermore's Sommerfests.  Just recently we added the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce's Oktoberfest to our list of upcoming Oktoberfests.

KARL LEBHERZ

Karl  formed his first band more than four decaces ago.  Initially, Karl and his “buddies” started playing in a pizza parlor in San Bruno, California.  Shortly afterwards  a serious automobile accident left him in a cast for two years.  During this time he had the time to perfect the mastery of the accordeon.  Soon the pizza circuit became a distant memory.  Trade shows, Oktoberfests, club dates and hotel gigs awaited him.

Due to the increasing popularity, the Karl Lebher band came to be very much in demand for numerus occasions.   In addition to many other events,  Karl and his band can still be found performing at Swiss Park in Newark, having already played there for more than three decades.   More information about Karl and his band, including his current schedule of events that are open to the public can be found at
www.karllebherzband.com.

Karl’s calendar is quite full, especially when it comes to Oktoberfests, as he is one of the “origianal” Oktoberfest musicians, playing and singing original Oktoberfest music.

ROY KAUFMANN

Roy started playing drums in 4th grade at the age of nine. He played in various concert, marching, dance and jazz bands while in school and college in upstate N. Y. Because of the prominent Polish and Hungarian population in the upstate area he became familiar with their ethnic dance music.  While an army musician he studied rudimental drumming and is a member of the National Association of Rudimental Drummers. He studied jazz drumming with Charles Perry in NYC and more recently with Scott Morris in Redwood City, CA.

Roy has worked with and for nationally known performers and various local bands, musicians, and vocalists. He has performed at the San Jose Jazz Festival and has played for musical shows at the Palo Alto Children's Theater since 1999.  Recordings include a college Dixieland Band album and two CDs with the jazz octet "Octobop".  In September and October you can often find him in Lederhosen playing Oktoberfests, and throughout the year playing for European-influenced dancing with the Swiss accordionist Karl Lebherz.

BOB JOHNSON

Bob plays saxophones and tuba with Karl. He is one of Karl's long-time and very versatile musicians, having played with Karl for fifteen years. His educational and professional background includes 4 years as principal bassoonist, saxophonist and head sound engineer for the USAF Europe Band in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he traveled extensively throughout Europe playing for many diplomatic functions, music festivals, radio broadcasts, etc. in both the concert band and big band. During his stay in Germany he also played with the Wiesbaden orchestra and many side gigs on saxophone.

He holds a degree electrical engineering from U.C. Berkeley and studied sound recording at Eastman School of Music.  In addition to playing with Karl, Bob is a member of the San Jose Metropolitan Band and also plays frequent engagements with his wife, Karen, who is a professional pianist.

Bob's broad professional music experience includes playing classical and jazz in addition to popular standards and traditional ethnic German music.  He also runs a successful business as a respected classical music recording engineer working with many of the well known conductors, composers and soloists in the Bay Area.

MIKE MARGULIS

  • B.Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory of Music M.Mus.
  • Degree from Manhattan School of Music. Studied for one year at the Mozarteum Academy for Music and Dramatic Art in Salzburg, Austria.
  • Taught at the University of Connecticut and University of Hartford.
  • Played with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Bolshoi Ballet Orchestra (Moscow) on their American tour (1968), Oakland Municipal Band, Pickle Family Circus and many other organizatIons and musical groups.

Music and music teaching have been Mike's professional focus for his entire adult life. He has been involved professionally with classical, jazz, folk and popular music and has a deep commitment to continuing his development, appreciation and love for all kinds of music.

Mike has returned to play with the Karl Lebherz Band after an approximate fifteen years' absence.
